Our Programs

Community Service Restitution

Community Service Restitution places non-violent offenders sentenced by the courts into opportunities to perform community service in lieu of jail time. Participants perform a variety of services and tasks at public and non-profit organizations. The Expansion program allows offenders opportunities to perform community service on weekends.

Thrift Shop

The Thrift Shop opened in December 2005. The Thrift Shop offers furniture and household items to residents at bargain prices. The Thrift Shop is open to any shopper and is located directly in back of the Catholic Charities offices. Donations to the Thrift Shop are accepted.

Emergency Assistance

Emergency Assistance is available for members of the Schoharie County community who find themselves in a crisis. Typical emergency assistance includes prescription medicines, gas vouchers, and other personal assistance. Emergency assistance includes a homelessness prevention component for rent and utilities support for those who qualify.

Family Therapy

Family Therapy is available to help individuals, couples and families work through difficult personal and emotional problems. Family therapy is based in a foundation of Family Systems that empowers individuals to move forward and heal. Clients come to Family Therapy through referrals or by calling for an appointment.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy invites clients to reconnect with the spontaneous creative energy of art and gesture as means of healing deep wounds that may be beyond words. This therapy form is used often but not exclusively with children to express emotional experiences and move forward.

Kinship Caregivers

Kinship Caregivers is a new program designed to help grandparents or relatives who suddenly become primary caretakers of children. The program helps to stabilize families and help caretakers to access financial services, support groups, and parenting assistance. The program also works closely with children in academic performance and social peer relations.

The Food Pantry provides emergency four days supply of food for residents who are hungry and temporarily without resources. Ordinarily, families can participate in the pantry once per month.
